THE ALEXANDER COOPER PROJECT  = Progressive Virtuosity in Sacred Jazz

ALEXANDER COOPER is the Musical Persona that is brought to life within the Musical Nexus of Leon Alexander and Warren CooperTHE ALEXANDER COOPER PROJECT is a six (6) piece Contemporary Jazz Ensemble collaboration of progressive virtuosity, creative artistry and soulful Spirit.  Leon Alexander is a world class percussionist, whose versatility of style is as diverse as it is excellent.  Playing all over the world in genres that vary from Classical and Contemporary to the Avant Garde and Straight Ahead, he redefines the approach to rhythm in music.

Leon is a native of Washington, D.C. whose musical career began in childhood as the son of a saxophone virtuoso.  He attended the Duke Ellington School for Performing Arts, and Oberlin Conservatory of Music where he and Warren became best friends.  From there he has performed with the United States Navy Steel Drum Band, The Ashland Symphony Orchestra, the New Orleans Philharmonic orchestra and scores of other internationally noted artists.  Having recently completed a four year tour of duty as the Lead Percussion Instructor for the United States Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, VA, Leon is currently serving as lead percussionist for the United States Navy Band, assigned to the President of the United States.  He is also the drummer and Unit Commander for the Cruisers Navy Specialty Band.

Warren Cooper is a vocal specialist, choir master, worship music minister and radio broadcaster.  As a native of Philadelphia, PA and the son of a Presbyterian pastor, he grew up in the Church with classical anthems, traditional hymns, gospel music and instrumental jazz.  Having studied at Germantown Friends School, Oberlin Conservatory of Music and with many of the Masters, Warren has emerged as a trend-setting pioneer within the genres of Jazz Worship and Sacred Jazz Music.  As an arranger, composer, performer and producer he is a recognized innovator who has taken significant strides in the fusion of the genres of Gospel and Jazz.

Inspired by such artists as Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and Maurice White, Warren has honed an intrinsically instrumental approach to vocal music performance.  His innovation remains consistent, as the founder and producer of the Balm In Gilead Jazz Worship Series, as well as the OVATIONS Gospel Music Radio Program (airing Sundays 6:00a – 9:00a EST on NPR Affiliate Temple Public Radio – www.wrti.org).  The radio show is in its 17th year of broadcast.

THE ALEXANDER COOPER PROJECT has a sound that you will not be able to forget – progressive virtuosity in a classic frame.  It is inspirational, amazing, and available for Worship Services, Sacred and Main Stream Jazz Concert Events and Performances, as well as Fundraising and Artistic Celebrations of any scale.
