Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church, in conjunction with Music Media Ministry, presents THE 2010 PHILADELPHIA JAZZ NATIVITY – A Cross Cultural Celebration of Christmastime. The production frames a Judeo – Islamic – Christian – American approach to the Christmastime Holiday Celebration, presented in the context of America’s original art form, Jazz. It is an inspirational presentation of the American Melting Pot Traditions of “Christmastime” – a holiday season that is characterized by giving, caring and sharing. It is a dramatic, educational and entertaining look at what the calendar time of Christmas means in the multicultural context of American living. Narrative presentations by Rabbis, Imams, Christian Clergy, and extraordinary people from everyday walks of life will season this presentation of holiday cheer in a way that will clearly illuminate the backdrop of our Unity and move all hearts to Celebrate Joy.
THE 2010 PHILADELPHIA JAZZ NATIVITY is Jazz, presented in a Philadelphia frame, World renown artists with Philadelphia roots will populate a stage that IS the transformed historic sanctuary of Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church. Founded in 1784 and heralded as the original site of Jazz Vespers in Philadelphia, Old Pine provides the perfect setting for the sacred stories of the Christian, Jewish and Islamic traditions to take wings and fly to a new level of relevance in the multi-cultural frame of the international city that IS Philadelphia.
THE 2010 PHILADELPHIA JAZZ NATIVITY will feature the performances of Philadelphia Jazz Legend, Saxophonist Robert “Bootsie” Barnes, Young Lion Jazz Trumpet Sensation Marcell Bellinger, International Jazz Divas Denise King, Gina Roche, Ruth Naomi Floyd and Sacred Jazz Impresario Warren Cooper. The band will feature the talents of Barry Sames on piano, Gerald “Twig” Smith on Guitar, Jim Straw on Reeds, “Big” Lee Smith on Bass and Navy Chief Leon Alexander on Drums and Percussion.
THE 2010 PHILADELPHIA JAZZ NATIVITY will have Discount Secured Parking Available. Proceeds from the Event will be divided in support of the Jazz Worship Ministry and Community Food Bank of Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church. Non-perishable food donations will also be received.
